Tell us why you joined the military, this is why I joined the Marines I joined for the same reason many others joined. The Marines impressed the hell out of me and there was "an event" that inspired me to join out of a "need to do something"-- most people call it patriotism. For some it was the attack on Pearl Harbor or Iwo Jima, for others the Chosin Reservoir or Hue City. or it was 23 Oct 1983, the Beirut barracks bombing. For me and many other is was the attacks of 11 Sep 2001.
And what makes me proudest? I think Ronald Reagan said it best-- “Some people live an entire lifetime and wonder if they have made a difference to the world, but the Marines don’t have that problem.”
A completely true statement. And if you ask me to single out just one incident-- I can't. I will say I'm most proud of the fact there's a few more people still on this planet because of the things I've done. and to fallow in my family tradition.

I honestly couldn't tell you the reason that I joined. It was just something that I was pulled to do. Maybe it was the fact that I grew up listening to my grandfather's stories about WWII or maybe it was I was from a small town that has had a long history of sending people into service or it could be how patriotic my family is. The fact is I don't know.
I do know that I am proud that I served, and even with all that has happened since I have been out I would go back in a heart beat if they would let me. Yes 9/11 happed when I started basic but that just made me want that blue cord (Army Infantry) even more!

Well, I joined back in November of 94.. Why I joined? To be honest with everyone, I was not even interested in the Military, all I wanted was a poster of a Gun and next thing you know I am enlisting in the Navy.. In the 13 Years that I have been in, it has made a great inpact on my life, I am now more greatfull of all the freedom that we enjoy and all the little things that most americans take for granted.. I love what I do in the Military and I will stay in the Navy until they force retire me... (Specially now that in the Navy once you make E-9 you can pretty much stay in until eternity)... Why would I want to do that? Because of your new family that you meet everytime that you move to a different location... darn I love the Navy...

There was a war on . you had a choice to either, do nothing , join up, get drafted or cut and run. I choose to join up. I am proud to be an American veteran and I fully embrace my constitutional rights and will never give up my freedoms.

Grew up a Navy brat....always wanted to join. My family (on my Dad's side) has served in the military going back to pre-Civil War days. I originally wanted to be a carrier pilot like my dad, but the combination of being color blind and not having 20/20 vision put an end to that dream. So I joined the Corp, 0351 (Dragon Gunner, anti-tank) and loved every minute of it. If I hadn't gotten injured, I'd have made a career out of it. Hard to believe I've been out 15yrs now....

Being a warrior, was the first thing i ever wanted to be. My grandfather would read the Bible to me. . When i was a pup. Hearing that to die in battle,or to save a life.Would earn the Lord's favor. We all gonna die,why not helping my country or brother's or sister's.

I joined because I love my country and God. I might add that it was away to go to college when I finished my 4 years.I served with honor and have never regreted it. Wait there were a few times when we had VC in the wire coming at us. Then there was the times when I was riding guard on a ration truck when we were taking sniper fire. I guess to be honest there were alot of times when I said to my self (boy are you stupid) the answer being yes. Looking back I wouldn't take any thing for the values I gained because I went in a boy and came out a man.
