I recently picked up some 230 grain Magtech .45ACP hollow points and realized after the purchase that they were +P. Since my .45 is a Kimber Ultra CovertII with an aluminum frame, I'm concerned that the gun won't handle the extra power. I only plan to test fire a few mags of ammo, then use them strictly for self defense provided they feed properly.
Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I understand your concern. If it was my alloy frame Kimber, I wouldn't feed it a 'steady diet' of +Ps. A box or two is NOT going to harm it. I would however verify that they feed and eject properly. After that only use as personal protection ammo. I use 185gr JHP and find them to have a flatter trajectory than the 230gr loads and I am able to obtain a faster second shot target acquisition. Just my thoughts, good luck Soldier.

Brigadier General, Both. I have fired thousands of rounds of 230gr HP & Ball. The hp 'might' rise a bit more than the ball, but really as far as I am concerned - it was very minor. Has less to do with bullet type, more to do with bullet weight and charge behind it.

Thanks General! You're most likely right about going with 185gr., but I was seduced by the 230grain's muzzle energy.
